Blog Assignment #7B: Getting Stuff Done on Time

Why can't people do homework (that takes 20 minutes) over spring break but can find a way to waste hours and hours and hours doing nothing complaining that they have nothing to do?
- When we receive an assignment in class the first thing we promise to do is do it on time that way we could have more time to have fun, but in most cases students forget about their commitment and instead they chose to wait until the last minute to do things in a rush. The correct term for this bad habit would be PROCRASTINATION! Procrastination when it comes to homework and important school assignments and tasks can really mess you up. It is important to realize that when we procrastinate we always (as stated before) end up doing things in the last minute, the problem here is not the time but the fact that when you do things in a rush you don't try your best. When you procrastinate at the end your only goal will be to finish the task, forgetting about the importance of doing the task correctly, with time! Therefore, please take this in consideration next time you are given an important assignment, STOP PROCRASTINATING! This will help you throughout your educational career, and it will make your life easier later on in life. I myself will stop procrastinating. :)

Assignment # 4B

It was dark and gloomy Friday night, my parents were leaving for the weekend to Vegas with my other two aunts and uncles, it was suppose to be a couples get away. They had all decided that it would be much easier and that they would feel more secure if all of the kids including Jessy, Valeria, Andrew, Erick, Iliana, and myself stayed in one house together, and so we did. We were left in my cousins house with no parental supervision at all and with money. I remember saying bye to my parents and acting like we would miss them, and I'm sorry to say it but the parents were taking a break from the kids, therefor we weren't going to Vegas with them, but best believe me when I say that we were taking a break from them also. Little did we know that things were not going to happen as we imagined. After our parents left we were laying down watching a movie, we had barely ordered a pizza, we were all exited for the next day and all the things that we would do now that our parents weren't here. That was until we heard shots and people screaming outside, my older cousin Iliana quickly crawled to the doors to close them as well as the windows and ordered us to get on the floor, it took us a while to realize what was happening, and the fact that we were in danger of getting shot. After we got on the floor the shooting went on for about five minutes then it stopped but we could still hear people screaming and cars burning wheel it all sounded so loud and scary it made one imagine the worst. We were to scared to get up, we feared the shooting would start again. Everyone stayed quiet and just waited soon enough we heard sirens and the ambulance, we felt more safe, but in the silence of the room we were taken by surprise by the ringing of the house phone. My cousin being the oldest she was the one who had the most responsibility, she got up and headed for the phone, only to realize that it was our parents calling. When she answered the phone her face expression changed completely , I could tell that our parents were freaking out and were scared for us. She explained to them that we were fine and that she had given us the proper directions for this situation. Our parents had found out about the incident through the news, they had barely  arrived at their hotel and the first thing they see on TV is this! They made us promise that we would stay indoors and that we wouldn't open the door to anyone, they said they wanted to come back home and that they would've if it weren't for the small fact that they were tired and irritated from the 4 hour trip. We did as we were told, we went to bed earlier than planned and we all slept in the same room and with the phones close by, I mist admit though that it took a while for us to be able to sleep, in my dreams I could still hear the commotion and the fear that I felt. Although I thought this would be a good weekend, it did not end as expected. Our parents came home early, they were home on Saturday morning by 12 in the afternoon but none of us complained. We were actually happy to have them back, it made us feel more secure and fearless. Later that day we found out that the shots that we heard were due to gang affiliation, in the incident 5 people were killed, 3 of them were completely innocent and had nothing to do with gangs and the reason why the search and prosecution kept going on all night was because one of the gangsters defined as dangerous criminal had ran away and the police was searching everywhere in the neighborhood and in the possible places that he could be. At the end of the day this experience made me realize how much I do need my parents by my side and it made me think about how wrong I was in the beginning of the weekend, but in the end still happy because my parents were back home.

Assignment #3B

What do you prefer? Online or Brick-and-Mortar? Why? What advantages does each have over the others?
Whenever it comes to choosing where I want to go shopping it all depends what I'm shopping for. For example, whenever i am shopping for clothes I usually like go for Brick-and-Mortar just because I like to make sure that the clothes that I am purchasing fits me and that I like the way it looks on me.When it comes to purchasing small electronics I will most likely buy it online, just for the fact that it saves me time and I would probably waist more money on gas if I went out to a store and bought my electronics there. So therefore you could say that I don't exactly prefer either but just go for what is most convenient. Each method of shopping has its own advantages. When it comes to Brick-and-Mortar you have the confidence that you know what you are buying and you can make sure that you are purchasing what you want, also you can have the certainty that it actually functions the way its suppose to, another advantage is that you get to take it home instantly after you have purchased it. When it comes to online shopping the good part is that many items you can only buy only buy online because they no longer have them on stores, also you have are shopping from the comfortableness of your home. One bad thing about online shopping is that sometimes you have to wait weeks before the item that you purchased online arrives in the mail. Both methods of shopping have its advantages and disadvantages it all depends on which adapts to your life style better.

Blog Assignment #1B

How do you expect semester two to be different? the same? What will you do to improve on yourself to prove that you deserve a passing grade?
I expect semester two to be different in many ways. First of all I expect myself to put much more effort in this semester than I did in the past one. This semester I will actually pay attention in class and I will not be doing another classes homework like I did last semester. I am decided to raise my grade up especially because this is an easy class and there shouldn't be any problems with me not passing it. Last semester I was taking too many AP classes but this year I have decided to drop one the reason why is because last semester i was very stressed out about my AP classes and focused too much on them that I never really took the time to get good grades in the rest of my non-AP classes, But this semester i am starting of new with a lot of stress of my back, I think that If I can just focus on one AP class mainly at a time I can do much better. This is very important to me especially considering the fact that I am a junior and raising up my GPA is very important this year. My goal is to get only A's and B's this year so that this way I can raise up my GPA this year which is very important that I at least achieve a 3.0. For this reasons I will work much harder and I will improve my working skills so that my grade can go up in this class.

Blog Assignment # 7

This year I have already asked my parents for what I want for my birthday which is coming up in a month. I have asked them for a Mac book pro computer, and my parents have agreed to give it to me so therefor there will be some changes. When I get my, computer I will be able to take it to school and finish my assignments there, it will make my life much easier because now I will be able to take my computer wherever I want and finish homework anywhere I can. This past year sometimes my family would go out to places without me because I had to stay home and finish my homework and since my computer was desktop I was never able to take it with me. I missed out on many family activities for the same reason. Although getting a new laptop will make my life much easier, I know that it will have an effect on me, based on what I've learned in this class, I will depend more on my computer to save data and to remember things for me, I will depend on it even more. We are living in a modern time where we depend on technology more than anything. I am now conscious that my information will be displayed online for the whole world, for the same reason I am going to take precautions as Mr.Yan recommended in the beginning of the year, I am going create passwords that consist of letters that are lower case and capital and numbers that only I know about and will remember. Since my life information will be out there it will be better that I take precautions.

Blog Assinment # 8: Google-itis?

In my point of view the internet as well as technology has become our memory. Now in days no one bothers to remember things because we know that we can access them whenever we want wherever we want. All of our information is stored in computers and phones. Today you can go to almost any cafe or restaurant and use their wi-fi, so you can access your information while you're out of home. Desktop computers are in the past, now laptops have substituted them, and we can take them anywhere as well. I actually think that I have fallen for the google effect, the reason why id because at times when I don't have time to copy all of my notes in class, the first thing that goes through my mind is, "no problem I'll just google it when I get home". Now that i take the time to think about my actions I realize that I've been making a mistake, if technology was to ever fail me I would be completely lost, because I wouldn't be able to remember most of my important data. I find it very hard to find a solution for this problem, but I think that our lifestyle would have to change if we really wanted to stop depending on technology. We would have to go back to the old-school style, which is writing everything in paper and saving it, hoping it won't get lost. But everything is possible if we try although in this specific case I find it very hard.
