Assignment # 4B

It was dark and gloomy Friday night, my parents were leaving for the weekend to Vegas with my other two aunts and uncles, it was suppose to be a couples get away. They had all decided that it would be much easier and that they would feel more secure if all of the kids including Jessy, Valeria, Andrew, Erick, Iliana, and myself stayed in one house together, and so we did. We were left in my cousins house with no parental supervision at all and with money. I remember saying bye to my parents and acting like we would miss them, and I'm sorry to say it but the parents were taking a break from the kids, therefor we weren't going to Vegas with them, but best believe me when I say that we were taking a break from them also. Little did we know that things were not going to happen as we imagined. After our parents left we were laying down watching a movie, we had barely ordered a pizza, we were all exited for the next day and all the things that we would do now that our parents weren't here. That was until we heard shots and people screaming outside, my older cousin Iliana quickly crawled to the doors to close them as well as the windows and ordered us to get on the floor, it took us a while to realize what was happening, and the fact that we were in danger of getting shot. After we got on the floor the shooting went on for about five minutes then it stopped but we could still hear people screaming and cars burning wheel it all sounded so loud and scary it made one imagine the worst. We were to scared to get up, we feared the shooting would start again. Everyone stayed quiet and just waited soon enough we heard sirens and the ambulance, we felt more safe, but in the silence of the room we were taken by surprise by the ringing of the house phone. My cousin being the oldest she was the one who had the most responsibility, she got up and headed for the phone, only to realize that it was our parents calling. When she answered the phone her face expression changed completely , I could tell that our parents were freaking out and were scared for us. She explained to them that we were fine and that she had given us the proper directions for this situation. Our parents had found out about the incident through the news, they had barely  arrived at their hotel and the first thing they see on TV is this! They made us promise that we would stay indoors and that we wouldn't open the door to anyone, they said they wanted to come back home and that they would've if it weren't for the small fact that they were tired and irritated from the 4 hour trip. We did as we were told, we went to bed earlier than planned and we all slept in the same room and with the phones close by, I mist admit though that it took a while for us to be able to sleep, in my dreams I could still hear the commotion and the fear that I felt. Although I thought this would be a good weekend, it did not end as expected. Our parents came home early, they were home on Saturday morning by 12 in the afternoon but none of us complained. We were actually happy to have them back, it made us feel more secure and fearless. Later that day we found out that the shots that we heard were due to gang affiliation, in the incident 5 people were killed, 3 of them were completely innocent and had nothing to do with gangs and the reason why the search and prosecution kept going on all night was because one of the gangsters defined as dangerous criminal had ran away and the police was searching everywhere in the neighborhood and in the possible places that he could be. At the end of the day this experience made me realize how much I do need my parents by my side and it made me think about how wrong I was in the beginning of the weekend, but in the end still happy because my parents were back home.
